Synthetic CabinetryThe alternative to wood cabinetry is synthetic material. In many cases, synthetic cabinetry can provide better insulation, as well as moisture and insect resistance, than wood. Synthetics are also less prone to shrinking and warping. The biggest benefit, however, is that it requires virtually no maintenance and will last forever. Imagine knowing that for as long as you own your hot tub, the cabinet can withstand whatever the weather is outside and still remain looking brand new. There are a variety of different synthetic materials used in hot tub cabinetry. When looking for the proper synthetic cabinet material to use on your hot tub, the two most important things to consider are the thickness and durability of the synthetic; and whether or not the synthetic material has consistent coloring throughout. We strongly recommend looking for a synthetic cabinet material at least 1/4" The thicker the material, the better it can handle the day to day abuse that is unavoidable from children, pets, and regular usage. Thicker materials also have a higher structural integrity than the thinner types. In addition, the thicker the material, the closer it will resemble real wood, and the richer it will feel to the touch. Look for synthetic cabinet materials in which the color is consistent throughout. This will protect the appearance of the cabinetry from the nicks and scratches that are unavoidable from normal wear and tear. Many manufacturers use inexpensive plastic skirting. If the plastic skirting gets scratched, the mark will show because the outside color is only on the surface. Some manufacturers save money by using a thin laminate coating of color that is also prone to scratching and will not wear well. Accidents do happen, and when they do, you can be assured that your spa cabinet will continue to look brand new if your synthetic cabinetry uses consistent coloring. |
