Specialty Shops A specialty store is classified as a store and/or dealer who specializes in either pools, sunrooms, lawn and garden supplies, etc. These tend to be smaller sized operations, usually privately or family owned. This often proves to be an advantage, since a specialty store can give the consumer personal attention because of their size. When choosing a specialty store, we strongly recommend looking for one that will provide the consumer with a proper home site inspection, as well as a complete hot tub education.
However, the major downside to purchasing from a specialty store is that hot tubs are usually a secondary product line for the business. As a result, sometimes hot tubs do not get as much attention as their main line of business, and you may not receive the latest information or features that are available on today's hot tubs. In addition, depending on the nature of the specialty store's main line of business, the store may not be open year round. For example, a pool store may not be open during the winter months, which is usually the time that people use their hot tubs the most. This is an important point to consider for service, parts availability, and purchasing chemicals. To be sure that you are purchasing your hot tub from a quality specialty store, ask the Critical Question to Ask Your Retailer, that appears later in this section.
